Letterman Retires

Letterman Retires
Posted April 4th, 2014 @ 5:11am

It wasn't the biggest shock in the world yesterday when the news broke that David Letterman announced he is retiring.  You knew Dave wasn't going to do the show forever and at some point he would call it a day.  I have been lucky enough to see Dave twice in New York.  It was a great experience.  He does keep his studio frigid though.  So I immediatley start thinking of who is going to replace him?  The first option would be Craig Ferguson.  He follows Dave and the show is produced by Dave's company.  I even read that if he gets passed over for it, it's in his contract that he has to be paid out a huge chunck of change.  I like Craig, but I don't think he is the right guy for it.  He isn't the buzzworthy type of host to compete against the Tonight Show and Kimmel.  Then I heard Jon Stewart might be the guy.  I think what makes Jon so good is obviously the political stuff.  He is perfect at the Daily Show.  Would that translate to a late night talk show?  I don't think so.  I could be wrong.  Then I heard Chelsea Handler.  This would be the biggest mistake ever.  Chelsea is fine if you like that cup of tea.  But her ratings at E! are not the best  She is an aquired taste.  I hope they don't go in that direction.  My choice is Conan.  I want to believe that the reason he went to TBS in the first place was he had a deal with Dave that when he retired, Conan would take over.  He could chill on cable for a few years and then when the time was right, it would be Conan's job.  How great would it be to see Conan go against the Tonight Show every night?  That would be a battle.  I'm hoping it happens.  In case you missed it last night, here is Dave making the announcement...
