When It Rains...

Posted April 25th, 2014 @ 4:48am

The last 48 hours have been pretty rough for my family.  It all started after I got off work on Wednesday.  I got a frantic call from my wife saying Jack fell out of a shopping cart and landed on the back of his head.  I told her to go to the ER to be safe.  I really didn't think it would be anything, but you never know.  After a few x-rays and CT it showed that he had a small fracture in his skull.  Luckily they said there was no bleeding in the brain, but they would need to tranfer him to Children's Hospital for further tests.  We were there for a while and I was feeling pretty confident we would be going home.  Jack was acting normal and seemed to be feeling ok.  But the doctor came in and upon further review, it looked like there might be a small amount of blood and they wanted to keep him overnight for observation.  They said it probably wasn't a big deal, and that it will be fine, but they wanted to be sure.  Scary stuff.  So it was a night in the hospital.  He did fine and after seeing several doctors we were able to go home yesterday.  He is a crazy kid, so the hard part will be to try and keep him from bonking his head again for a while.  Not sure how we will do that.  I'm actually surprised that was his first trip to the ER.  Everyone we talked to said the same thing.  That is happens.  And it probably won't be the first time this happens.  While we were at the hospital we also got the word that my wife's grandma had passed away.  She was 97 and still full of piss and vinegar.  She was a great lady.  She liked me from the first time we meet.  She said I reminder her of her late husband and we always had a special connection from that point.  I am sad to see her go.  But that was another thing poor Debra had to deal with.  She is a strong woman though and we will get through it.  On top of all that, it's her birthday today.  I had made some fun plans for tonight that had to be cancelled now.  It's a bummer, but in the big picture, who cares.  We can celebrate another night.

Here is my little dude killing time in the hospital yesterday with the iPad...

Since I wasn't able to post a TBT pic yesterday, here is one from when me and Debra first were dating from Street Scene back in 05...Happy Birthday my love!
