After being involved in a single car accident that killed their mother, two young boys ages three and one have survived after spending about two days on their own.
A 3-year-old boy and his 1-year-old brother were left on their own for at least two days after surviving an accident that killed their mother in south Arkansas.
The older boy was found walking by himself in a rural area near Camden Arkansas. The boy was covered in cuts and scrapes and appeared to have been outside for an extended period according to authorities.
After searching the area, authorities located an overturned vehicle deep in a ravine that wasn't visible from the road.
The boy's 1-year-old brother was found inside the car still fastened to his car seat and was said to be alert and responsive. He was immediately removed and transported to the local hospital.
Nearby the deputies also discovered the body of their mother who had been ejected from the car. The woman was later identified as 25-year-old Lisa Holliman.
"We're still trying to determine the timeline, but the mother was last seen Thursday, so they could have been out there two or three days," deputies say. "This is one of the most remarkable things I've ever experienced in my 11 years at this department."
Conditions in the area have been hot and humid and thunderstorms had also moved through the area.
Both boys suffered from dehydration but are doing fine and have been released to family members.
