8-Year-Old Boy Killed At San Bernardino School Had Survived Heart Surgery

Jonathan Martinez, an 8-year-old boy was shot and killed along with his teacher in a San Bernardino special education classroom.  Jonathan was born with a genetic condition and had recently survived heart surgery.

Martinez had Williams syndrome, a rare disorder characterized by learning delays, mild-to-moderate intellectual disabilities and heart problems according to Dale Marsden, superintendent of the San Bernardino City Unified School District.

Jonathan died later at a hospital after being shot in his classroom Monday morning by the husband of his teacher, Karen Smith, who was also killed.  The gunman, Cedric Anderson, then turned the gun on himself.

Another minor who's name is not being released was struck by gunfire, but is in stable condition and is in good spirits.
