Aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson and its strike group are scheduled to arrive off the Korean Peninsula at the end of April, defense officials tell CNN.
The carrier left Singapore on April 8 and was ordered to head north to the Korean Peninsula in response to North Korean provocations.
The announcement has increased tensions with Pyongyang and with the official Korean Central News Agency calling the deployment "nothing but reckless action of aggression to aggravate the tensions in the region."
President Trump added to the tension by telling Fox Business News that he was sending "an armada" of powerful warships and submarines to waters off of Korea.
