NYPD Officer Shot And Killed In 'Unprovoked' Attack

Officer Miosotis Familia was shot and killed while sitting in her NYPD police cruiser with her partner on Wednesday morning.

Cops are saying that this attack was completely unprovoked and was wrapping up her shift. She was writing in her shift log memo book when a gunman walked up and fired through the passenger window.

The gunman was later identified as Alexander Bonds and was seen in a surveillance video approaching the vehicle "with purpose," officials said. The bullet struck Familia in the head. Her partner immediately called for assistance.

"Shots fired! 10-85!" the officer is heard shouting after the gunfire,  including the code for an officer down. "My partner's shot! My partner's  shot! My partner's shot! Hurry up, central!"

The suspect was shot and killed when officers approached him and he took out a gun and pointed it at officers.

Familia was taken to a nearby hospital in extremely critical condition where she later died.

Familia was a mother of three and was a 12-year veteran on the force.

"Based off what we know right now, it's clear this was an unprovoked  attack on a police officer who are assigned to keep the people of this  great city safe," Police Commissioner James O'Neill said.
