San Diego County is expected to advance to the red tier on California's Blueprint for a Safer Economy.
The county will move from the purple tier to the less restrictive red tier on Wednesday, March 17, according to County News Center.
"This is great news for our region. San Diegans have done a good job following the public health guidance and that has driven our case rate down in recent weeks," said County public health officer Wilma Wooten, M.D., M.P.H.
Here's what changes when the county moves to the red tier:
- Restaurants can resume indoor dining at 25% capacity or 100 people
- K-12 Schools can reopen for in-person instruction without seeking a waiver
- Gyms can operate indoors at 10% capacity
- Movie Theaters can reopen with theaters at 25% capacity
- Shopping Centers can up their capacity from 25% to 50% with food courts reopening at 25% capacity
- Live Events that are outdoors will be able to have up to 20% capacity
- Museums, Zoos, & Aquariums can resume some indoor activities with a max capacity of 25%
- Amusement Parks can reopen at 15% capacity in the red tier starting April 1
However, NBC7 reports while San Diego may be eligible to move to the red tier, it doesn't necessarily mean restrictions will be loosened. That decision is ultimately up to county public health officials.
