80,000 Sign Petition To Halt Payment For Prince Harry and Meghan's Security

A 6-man team of Canadian Mounties and British bodyguards are currently protecting Harry, Meghan, and baby Archie now that they have relocated to Vancouver Island, Canada. This development has Canadian citizens worried that their hospitality could end up costing taxpayers upwards of $10 million dollars a year.

In response, the Canadian Taxpayer Federation (CTF) created an online petition, No Taxpayers' Money for Meghan and Harry.

To Prime Minister Justin Trudeau:

Canadians wish the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Harry and Meghan, all the best as they seek financial independence.

That goal is important because Canadian taxpayers shouldn’t have to cover the couple’s bills.

In just six days, the petition received more than 80,000 signatures, which the CTF delivered to the prime minister's office on Tuesday.

Additional petitions have popped up online, where Canadian citizens have been able to add their signature and share their dismay over the potential taxpayer funded expense.

One person wrote "We don't have enough money to help our own homeless, elderly, people with disabilities, and more! Why would be pay for millionaire's security? Will they foot the bill when we have a natural disaster? Will they pay for my grandmother's hearing aids since she can't afford them on her minimal pension?" Another person commented "I have worked over 50 years for my country and am unwilling to share any of MY tax dollars to independently wealthy people looking for a haven".
