The video of a giant Huntsman spider eating a pygmy possum was recorded by tourists at a lodge in Tasmania, Australia. The video, which has gone viral shows an event that is fairly rare because Huntman spiders typically only eat small birds, frog, and geckos.
The Huntsman is the largest spider species in the world - they're leg span can reach 12-inches. They can be found in Australia, New Zealand, Southeast Asia, the Mediterranean, Florida, Hawaii and possibly in other tropical and semi-tropical regions. Adult Huntsman spiders hunt and forage for food as opposed to spinning webs to catch food.
Pygmy possums are a small marsupial species native to Australia, Papa New Guinea, and Indonesia. They reach 4 - 4.5 inches in length and weigh on average and weigh less than 2 ounces.
