Joey "Jaws" Chestnut continued his reign and also beat his own record at the Nathan's Famous July Fourth hot dog eating contest by downing 74 wieners and buns in 10 minutes.
Chestnut not only took home the belt for the 11th year in a row but he also beat his own record by eating two more hot dogs than the year before.
Chestnut said he was “feeling good.”
“I found a vicious rhythm,” the 34-year-old Chestnut said after the contest was over.
While Chestnut ate 10 more hot dogs and buns than the second place finisher Carmen Cincotti, a judging error cast doubt initially because the jurists didn't see that the competitors were taking hot dogs off of two different plates.
Finally jurists certified the final tally and Chestnut's record of 74 hot dogs.
A total of $40,000 in prize money was up for grabs with the two first place winners taking home $10,000 each.
Miki Sudo was the top female competitor and held her title as well as she consumed 37 franks to take home the prize money for the fifth consecutive year. Sudo fell short of the 41 hot dogs she consumed the year before but still shut out the second place competitor that chowed down on 28 wieners and buns.
