Neal Peart has died at the age of 67 at his home in Santa Monica from brain cancer. The Canadian rocker was considered a rock virtuoso who was best known as primary lyricist and drummer for RUSH.
Considered one of the best drummers in rock history, Peart had a unique way of incorporating alternate music styles like jazz and big band with a hard rock style.
Peart formed Rush with singer and bassist Geddy Lee and guitarists Alex Lifeson in 1974. The band went on to enjoy massive success with hits like "Tom Sawyer," "Time Stand Still," "Subdivisions," "Freewill," "Closer to the Heart," and "Limelight".
While the bands popularity continued for decades Peart was always honest about the toll performing took on his body. Peart announced his retirement in 2015, and at the time admitted that his physical performances as a drummer had left him with chronic tendonitis and shoulder problems.
