Tom Cruise made a public appearance today at San Diego's Comic-Con International to give the public its first look a the Top Gun sequel Top Gun:Maverick, which will be released in June of 2020.
The original film hit theaters 34 years ago and quickly became a hit. Details about the sequels plot are scare, but it's clear that Maverick (Tom Cruise), still resists authority and has no interest elevating his career in by sitting behind a desk. Cruise is joined by Top Gun alum Val Kilmer as the Iceman, along with a new cast including actors Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm, Miles Teller, and Ed Harris.
A large portion of both movies were filmed in San Diego, utilizing the coast, Coronado Island and what is now the Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, the former Naval Air Station at Miramar was for years known as Fighter Town U.S.A.—the home of the "Top Gun" training school. Scenes were also shot in Oceanside, at Kansas City BBQ in downtown San Diego and at the former Naval Training Center, which is now a mixed-use development called Liberty Station.
