World's Largest Avocado Grown By Family In Hawaii

At 5.6 pounds, an avocado grown in Maui has earned the Guinness World Record title for world's heaviest avocado. The avocado was produced by a tree in the yard of the Pokini family who planted the seed for the tree ten years ago when their son Loihi was born.

The tree is now over 20 feet tall and the family admits that they don't fertilize the tree, but simply leave it alone to grow.

The Guinness verification process required input from a certified horticulturist, witness testimonials, and documentation using a state-certified scale and photos and video of the process. The family was prepared for this process after making a prior attempt with an avocado grown last year from the same tree.
