How Do Men & Women Handle Stress?

We've all seen the movies that stereotype women as sad, messy and weepy when they are stressed and all they want is a pint of ice cream. Turns out, this stereotype isn't entirely inaccurate, it turns out.

According to recent studies conducted by London's University College, they found that women tend to drown their sorrows with greasy, fatty foods whereas men opt for porn or to have sex when they are feeling down or stressed out.

Researchers surveyed 115 men and 250 women and asked them how they deal with stress and what they do to relax.  It was found that 51% of women do admit to drowning their sorrows in comfort food to calm anxiety compared to only 31% of men.

The question is though, why do people feel the need to eat artery clogging foods when they are having a bad day or stressed out?

When we are stressed out, our adrenal glands (located on top of each kidney) releases cortisol and cortisol gives you an increased appetite.  And obviously when you have an appetite then you are more likely to eat anything and everything that you can get your hands on.

For men, however, they say that they would rather have sex to unwind compared to just 11% of women.  So basically we conclude that women love food and men love sex. Is this really a surprise?
