With a stellar home run by Giancarlo Stanton and a awesome catch at the fence by Adam Jones., the United States beat the Dominican Republic and is headed to the semifinals of the World Baseball Classic. The U.S. will face Japan on Tuesday night at Dodger Stadium with hoped of making it to the championship game.
Stanton's home run gave the U.S. a 4-2 lead and put a charge into the sellout crowd of 43,002. Team USA players have given their all and it's been an all-out amazing performance. Team manager Jim Leyland said that many big-name players declined to play for the U.S. but he really appreciates those who join the team.
"There were a lot of people that respectfully declined, and we're not going to throw anybody under the bus," Leyland said. "We're going to honor the people that accepted and are here. So we're moving forward, and that's all we're talking about. ... And right now that's the only team I care about. And these players that are here are the only players I care about right now".
