Here's How Much California Women Make Compared To Men In 2021

Women's History Month is the perfect time to reflect on how far we've come in reaching gender equality and how far we've yet to go.

One area that women's rights advocates have been fighting to end is the gender pay gap.

Despite attempts to achieve equal pay for workers, Business.org reports that women in America still make 18% less in yearly earnings than men.

To break down the nuances in the gender pay gap, and to see which states are making progress, Business.org released a report of the gender pay gap in every state in 2021.

Here in California, they report that women make 12% less compared to men. The average male salary in the state is $57,016, while the average female salary is $50,220.

While California isn't the worst when it comes to equal pay, they still have a ways to go compared to other states.

Business.org found that Vermont has the smallest pay gap, with women earning only 9% less than men overall.

On the opposite end, Wyoming has the largest pay gap of all the states with women earning a whopping 35% less than men overall.

While the reason for these troubling statistics is hard to pin down, Business.org suggests a lack of equal access to funding for female-owned businesses, unequal hiring practices, and our culture that emphasizes traditional family work structures as some of the causes.
