Transportation Emergency Issued In California As Train Service Shut Down

Train service between Oceanside and Irvine could be out for 45 days as California declares a state of emergency in Orange County and approves six million dollars in immediate repairs to the tracks in San Clemente.

Repairs to stabilize the train tracks in San Clemente could take 30 to 45 days, as crews work to repair 700 feet of rail line just north of Camp Pendleton that had been sliding by four-hundredths of an inch per day after a storm last month.

This means passenger and cargo train service between San Diego and Los Angeles will be out for up to a month and a half.

The Coaster and other trains are still running between Oceanside and Downtown San Diego.

In addition to six million dollars in emergency funding from the state, the San Diego Union-Tribune says the orange county transportation authority is also working on an extra 12 million dollars from the federal government.
