This weekend our family went up to Monterey/Santa Cruz to meet up with my husband's family for an ash scattering ceremony. Within the last 8 years my husband has lost his Mom, 2 Uncles and his Grandma all on his Mom's side of the family. Nana was holding on to all the ashes of her children who passed before her. So when she passed her surviving daughter, my husband's Aunt didn't know what to do with 4 urns full of ashes. They all loved Santa Cruz and had a lifetime of fond memories spending time at the beach. So a small group of my husbands family went out on a boat that does scattering of ashes out in the ocean. We were in Santa Cruz right in front of the Boardwalk which was cool/crazy. There was music played, prayers read and a ringing of a bell after each urn of ashes was scattered. They even mixed the ashes with rose petals which I thought was a beautiful touch, especially since my mother-in-law's name was Rose. Here are some pictures from the boat.........
