Mexican Cartel Boss 'La Catrina' Dies in Shootout

Drug lord María Guadalupe López Esquivel, 21, who was known as 'La Catrina,' died after a shootout with Mexican National Guards.

Instagram model and boss lady María Esquivel AKA Mexico's 'Grande Dame of Death,' was arrested along with 6 other men and had their weapons and ammo confiscated after a shootout in La Bocanda, Mexico during a meeting with Jalisco New Generation Cartel leader Miguel 'M2' Fernández on January 10, 2020. Officers were conducting a warrant when they got attacked by the gang.

Esquivel is seen in footage (below) fighting for her life after she was wounded in the neck as a serviceman tells her to relax and to try to hold on. She was flown by helicopter to a nearby hospital where she was pronounced dead. A morgue photo of a 'Catrina' thigh tattoo confirms that the woman killed was María Guadalupe López Esquivel.

Back on October 14, 2019, Esquivel commanded an ambush that killed 13 cops and injured numerous others in the Michoacán city of Aguililla.

María Guadalupe López Esquivel grew up in Tepalcatepec, Mexico and was raised by her dad, who was a farmer, and mother, who was a housewife. In 2017, she went to Aguililla and joined the Jalisco New Generation Cartel.

During Friday's shootout, records revealed that Esquivel paid some of her colleagues $210 a week in wages.
