Facebook Announces Jump Into Pool Of Online Dating

Facebook wants to help you find a long-term relationship, not just a hook-up. According to CEO Mark Zuckerberg, who just announced that his company will begin rolling out a new dating feature during the social network's F8 developer conference today.

The new dating app is said to help bring people together in a more meaningful way and build longer relationships, not just random hook-ups.  Zuckerberg also insisted that the app was designed with privacy and safety from the very beginning which is very important when it comes to dating apps.

The dating feature will be available via your own Facebook profile and you can decide to opt in to the feature which will then display a heart on the top right corner of your Facebook profile.  The dating profile will only display your first name and will only be available  to others who opt in for that dating service in your area.  So, it won't be announced on Facebook that you've joined the app and your friends won't be able to see your dating activity.
